2008 in review

Thanks to everyone's donations, support and scholarship submissions that made 2008 another successful year for Project Alex! We were able to accomplish many great deeds for the community -- thanks to your help!

In addition to the events and donations below, we also do the following annually:

* Contribute to the Medway Elementary Schools for Reading is Fundamental (RIF), which gives each student with a free book three times a year. The RIF program works with Scholastic Books to get the best books available that are age appropriate. The kids really like this!

* Sponsor the Medway High School weight room to be open during off-hours between January through March.

* Donate bicycle helmets to the Medway Police Station.

* Sponsor two class rings -- one for a male student, one for a female student.

October 2008

  * "The Alex Handy Exercise Room" at the junior high school is complete! Thanks to Cybex who donated all of the equipment, and our tireless volunteers who offered their hands to get the job done! The room is a great success and we're told by the teachers there that is being used often -- even by the teachers! We're so pleased to have been able to add another way to keep kids healthy and safe.

October 2008

* Ann Handy wins the Celtics/REMAX Home Court Makeover competition by writing an essay about Alex and gets a basketball court put in on their property! Now, kids from the neighborhood can come and play, bringing a play area closer to home and avoiding the need to cross busy streets. Cedric Maxwell, retired Celtics player, came to commemorate the court.

April 2008

The foundation  made a donation to the Medway High School to help keep the library open for the rest of the school year.

March 2008

The Medway school board voted to allow the foundation to remodel the current junior high exercise room. We are very excited about this and look forward to rebuilding a new room for student to lift weights and exercise, offering an additional safe environment for students to hang out together. Upon completion of the exercise room, it was also voted that the room will be named "The Alex Handy Exercise Room"  The foundation is very proud of this, and hope to make the school and community proud. Thank you Medway.

On behalf of the foundation, thank you for all your continued support and donations. Your help has been critical to our success.
